Creating light through colour

The "BEFORE" and "AFTER" shots of this kitchen renovation really do say it all. After years of faithfull service to an active family of four, the resident kitchen was past its prime.

The owners called us with instructions to breathe new life back into the heart of their home. The existing layout worked well in this corner configuration, and it was agreed this should be retained in the new design. However, the lack of direct, natural light in this part of the room called for a carefully considered colour palette and lighting, to create a space that felt naturally light and airy.

Designer, Wayne Church's solution was  to keep it light: benchtops in 'Ice', cabinets and cupboards in pale Alabaster. Punching out in a burst of colour, the glass splashback is a beautiful pale blue. This provides the needed balance and contrast to the mass of off-white, adding interest and depth to the overall look. Edge-lit across the top with LED strip lighting, the overall effect is indeed light, airy and crisp.

Materials and components used in this kitchen are, as always, of the highest quality: water resistant board (MUF) is used throughout, and renowned Hettich drawer systems make this space a pleasure to use day after day. The end result really is night and day, a highly successful transformation.
