Timber tones and carrara marble

The palette of textures, tones and materials in this new kitchen work together creating richness and warmth. Designed by Liz Kerby, of Lizzie K & Co. Interior Design, the layout is uncluttered and elegant, letting the materials and surfaces take centre-stage.

The generous Carrara statuario marble benchtop is sheer luxury, and a main feature in the kitchen, contrasting nicely against the dark-stained cedar panelling to the front of the island. The focal-point in this open plan space, it can seat five and still be a work surface with room to spare. The pantry doors and cupboards feature a reconstituted timber veneer in 'Wild Pecan' that is versatile and stylish. Its natural good looks go well with the white butcher's tiles to the splashback, and Tasmanian oak floors.

With cabinetry running floor to ceiling, the kitchen fits seamlessly into the open-plan space, enhanced by the elegance and subtlety of the overall design. Finishing touches include custom-made copper pendant lights that are a perfect match for the nature-inspired tones of timber and marble.

Despite the simple forms and minimalist approach of this kitchen, the designer's clever choice of materials ensures this kitchen is rich, warm and inviting - a real centre-piece for this home.
